Population

Population

Mankind has often thought that there is or will be an overpopulation problem - one where not only is there not enough resources, especially food, but that there is not enough space on earth to accommodate everyone.  Figures have been projected that try to prove these claims; photos have been shown of starving children or densely populated regions.  The 'experts' tell us something must be done before it is too late.  Their solution is that if people do not control their own fertility, then Governments will have to do so on their behalf.

This may seem acceptable to those who believe the 'experts', but are the 'experts' correct in their understanding of the so-called problem?  In fact, is there an overpopulation problem that we should be concerned about?

In the Bible it says in Genesis 1: 27-28 "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.  God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it." It also says in Genesis 9:1 "Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth."  So, we are actually told to 'fill the earth' but have we done so?  Take a look at any map and look at the distances between towns.   In many cases worldwide there are hundreds of miles and in some cases thousands of miles between towns.  Even driving through the UK it is possible to drive along country lanes, passing field after field and not see a house for miles.

Admittedly some of the places may be mountains, desert, or inhospitable land of one sort or another but that doesn't mean that it cannot be used.  If it did then why would man be contemplating trying to establish 'outposts' on the moon or Mars?  Surely these other planets are even more 'inhospitable' than any vacant land on earth?  It has already been shown that man can create living accommodation in the desert - Las Vagas.  Or on a tiny island with no natural resources - Hong Kong.  Or even in the below freezing conditions at the North or South Pole.  Man's ingenuity and adaptability certainly hasn't prevented him so far from creating a living habitation out of the seemingly impossible.  So it can be seen that despite that argument, we have plenty of land that is available if we choose to use it.

Even in China, where there is the greatest population for any nation, the population density is less than in the UK.  China has approximately 255 people per square mile and Britain has approximately 599 people per square mile, which means that Britain has nearly twice the population density of China.  Yet China has had a forced 'one child' policy that was instigated by the 'experts' to try to reduce the perceived population problem.  Please see Population Research Institute for further information on this and other population issues.

The Lord God, as far as the Bible says, has never told us to stop being fruitful and increasing and filling the earth.  Yet, especially in the last one hundred years since the introduction of contraceptives, this is exactly what mankind has done.  The developed countries have not only taken it on board that they should have fewer children, but have exported this thinking and action to the poorer nations, often against the knowledge or agreement of the people concerned.  The 'experts' would like to see the Chinese One Child Policy copied, with Government backing, in every country.  To this end they are introducing family planning clinics worldwide, under the umbrella organisation of IPPF (International Planned Parenthood Federation).  The Family Planning Association and Marie Stopes International are part of this global policy of ensuring that the number of children women have is controlled by easy access to contraceptives, abortion and sterilisation.   God's idea or man's idea?

Is the thinking behind these policies really to do with 'overpopulation' or could it be something else?  What is so wrong with people throughout the world having children?  We know that it cannot be the lack of land space .  Neither can it be a food problem.  The world actually produces enough food to feed everyone three times over - that is just a distribution problem, caused by corrupt Governments.  In fact, in the not too distant past the richer nations had so much food that it was destroyed despite the starving millions who continued to die.

To help us understand the root of this action we need to look at who is behind the formation of these organisations.  Marie Stopes opened the first 'Birth Control Clinic' in Britain in London in 1921 (see Bible and Birth Control).  About the same time Margaret Sanger was doing similar work in the USA.  Both these women were supporters of the Eugenics movement.

So far, the western world has taken on board voluntarily the widespread use of contraception and birth rates have now plummeted to an all time low with some nations now trying drastically to stop the decline and encourage the people to have more children.  Even with the UK it has been acknowledged that there are not enough people to do all the work.  We are seeking workers from abroad to fill the gaps in our workplaces.  This in turn leaves the foreign nation struggling to find workers within its own country to replace those who come here.

We also have, along with many other nations, the problem of not only too few workers, but too few taxes being paid to cover current daily needs and future pensions.  We have an ageing population as six million of what should have been our workers never were born due to abortion.  These six million people should now be contributing in work and taxes to the economy.  Elderly people are now being told that they must work longer for less pension.  We do not have the resources or manpower to care for our elderly and so, for those who are incapacitated are having their food and fluid removed as this is now classed as 'medical treatment', and they are 'allowed to die' by starvation.

The Lord God blessed mankind when He told us to multiply.  Mankind has now lost that blessing because we have chosen to ignore the commands of God.  Perhaps the only way back to receiving the blessings of the Lord is to once again 'go forth and multiply'.   Which should we follow?  God's command or man's idea?
