The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHRs) protects the right to life of 'all members of the human family'. Since the unborn are members of the human family the UDHRs protects the right to life of the unborn. The Declaration on the Rights of the Child states that, '...the child, by reason of his physical and mental immaturity, needs special safeguards and care, including appropriate legal protection, before as well as after birth.'

View Why VSO must oppose the killing of children by abortion, contraception, human embryo experimentation, IVF, human cloning, and related activities; how such activities are modern forms of slavery, destroy the environment, and how Human Rights apply.
VSO has replied to our letter asking them to join our Make Abortion History Campaign. You can read VSO's reply in PDF format from the link above.
- In their reply to us they claim that VSO :
...' respond[s] to governments and community organisations throughout Asia and Africa by sending volunteers who work in partnership with colleagues and communities, and in accordance with our partners organisations' priorities, to share skills and learning and jointly achieve change', and that, 'We regret that VSO cannot make any commitment to United for Life's campaign.'
This has raised the question of VSO's commitment to implementing in full the UDHRs and the Declaration on the Right of the Child in regard to the unborn which must include, 'appropriate legal protection, before as well as after birth.'
No group of humans can be treated as 'non-persons' and this includes the disabled, the elderly, slaves, Jews, the unborn or any other group, including human embryos. Thus, no excuse can be made to exclude any group of humans from equal protection under law.
- United for Life replied to VSO asking the following questions:
In VSO's response to government and community requests for volunteers surely VSO assesses the suitability and ethical nature of that request? For example, if a government or community organisation asked VSO to send personnel to carry out forced or coercive abortion, forced or coercive sterilisations or forced or coercive contraceptive administration, or help in the administration or related tasks to facilitate such forced or coercive activities, would VSO accept or reject such a request made upon VSO's services and by what ethical criteria would this decision be based?'
United for Life awaits VSO's reply.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights proclaims these Rights as 'a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations' and that 'every individual and every organ of society ...shall strive ...to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance ...among the peoples of Member States.' It is therefore United for Life's duty to call upon VSO to help promote legal protection for children before as well as after birth.
